Paid for and very inexpensive. I live in San Antonio Texas. Public transportation is not bad in Colombia, I stayed 3 months and went from Bogota, to Cali, then threw the valley. Loved the valley. I ended up staying in Cartago.

Verona to Salento - 8 ways to travel via train, plane, and bus

I stayed in a hotel with a small gym, pool, free breakfast, air conditioned room, cleaned daily. About 11 dollars a night, that was the monthly rate. No nightlife what so ever. I would stay a day or two. Rented a motorcycle for a few weeks, that really helped me explore the area. Colombia is not near as developed for tourists as say S. Asia, it will be years before it gets tourist friendly as other places IMO. And not as safe by a long shot. In three months of travel there I spent about a month and that was really trying.

Americans Speed Dating in Colombia

After I was in the hotel for a couple of weeks i started making a few friends. Met the local english teacher and have been invited to go back and stay with them. Harder to make friend there than in Asia IMO. Much harder. But doable. If you like nature and quant out of the way places, the valley is great. But dangerous. Head for the valley. I honestly believe you could live like a king for a month. Staying at a small family run hotel in middle class Fontibon, the neighborhood next to the airport.

Has tv with two English channels, one is CNN. Wifi is ok, but a bit sporadic in early evening when everyone is home and awake.

Ayenda 1111 Optimum Hotel, Pereira

I compensate by downloading Netflix. Best thing is the owners. And the place is spotless. And they are super pleasant.

  • Heading elsewhere in March, then to Ecuador in April. The myth about the beautiul Colombian comes with a price, all the hotties are spoiled rotten and will try to take the lead in everything! Hi Tim, Just got back from 3 months in Colombia in Medellin. We were there last year for a month. Everything is a little cheaper than last year except for apartments.

When we refused, he changed the address in Airbnb, and created a new listing we are assuming to rent it out from under us. We convinced the owner to cancel the reservation so we could get out money back, 3 days later Airbnb contacted us and given our documentation we would have gotten our money back anyway, but beware on rentals of 28 days or more, make sure the owner has many reviews. Two other things to be aware of with Medellin, the air pollution is really bad, walking around our apartment a few hours after the tile had been mopped will turn the bottoms of feet black.

Also when crossing a street the pedestrian does not have right of way even in the crosswalk, so be aware and alert, and the traffic is horrendous. We had a bus and a motorcycle switch lanes to either scare us or try to run us down. A friend has a car that was stopped run into him when the light changed.

We really like Colombia but at this point I think we are done with the bigger cities, if we go back it will be to smaller towns gracious people without the traffic or pollution issues.

Hi everyone. I leave in UK and i would like Cartagena for 5 days. Can anyone tell me about that city little bitt? Thank you! I just got back from Cartagena 2 weeks ago.. I visited Bogota and Medellin also.. Cartagena is completely different than those 2 cities..

Average High and Low Temperature in February

I was sweating non stop.. Medellin was definitely my favorite place out of the 3. I have visited Cartagena four times since and enjoyed my stay every time. It is very interesting and there is never a dull moment imho. I love the locals who are very friendly. There is a lot to see and do, especially at night. I love the culture, museums, churches, narrow streets of Getsemani which is not far from the Old City. It is easy to walk around and easy to get a taxi, or take a van to nearby cities. I travelled by van going to Barranquilla and Santa Marta. It helps to know some Spanish but you can get by.

It is extremely hot there, I agree. That is my only negative thing to say and the traffic is pretty hectic imo. I live in Medellin and absolutely love it. I eat all lunch and dinners out unless I feel like cooking. I walk every day and along with better food, I have already lost 10 lbs. I plan to stay here unless a disaster happens which would force me to leave. I am interested in living in Colombia.

I speak excellent Spanish too. I wanted some advise on the cities to live in. I like Medellin and the country side. I would enjoy tranquility with some progress but also with some small amenities like internet service and maybe local festivals or events? What cites would anyone recommend me to consider for long term stay. I will say that is a good place to stay.. The rooms are large and clean.
