Two decades ago, rare dinosaur fossils that preserved traces of feathers were found in ancient lakebeds of northeastern China. This discovery, which helped scientists demonstrate that birds descended from dinosaurs, was possible because the mixture of volcanic ash and fine-grained shale in the lakebeds had preserved bits of soft tissue, including feathers — unlike the majority of dinosaur fossils, which contain only bone. Since then, a flood of new dinosaur bones unearthed in China has helped scientists rewrite their understanding of the tree of life in various ways.
Xu has been at the forefront of research into how dinosaurs evolved feathers and flight. In , he described a curious pigeon-sized dinosaur with four feathered limbs, apparently early wings that allowed the animal to either fly or glide. Xu now believes that early dinosaur plumage may have played a role in insulation and in mating displays, even before flight feathers evolved.
He co-authored a paper that examined fossilized melanosomes — pigment packets that give rise to colour in modern bird feathers — to deduce the likely colours of dinosaur feathers. Some species likely sported rings of white and brown tail feathers; others had bright red plumage on their heads. Embracing new technology, his team also uses CT scanners to study the interior of fossils and builds 3-D computer simulations to make inferences about what range of motions a dinosaur may have had.

Location is ok but fair walk to subway but taxis are always easy to find and reasonably cheap. Great place to explore Shanghai from. Staff polite and friendly. My room was on the 17th floor with park view and housekeeping cleaned room every day and refilled free mini bar! It's just a 15 minute drive away from the Bund and other famous spots in Shanghai but by subway just 10 stations to People's Square.

Staff at both restaurant and front desk spoke enough English and were always smiling when I came back from the city. Really enjoyed my stay and compared to the rate of the room, I was extremely satisfied. I will return in future. The location is about 20min by taxi from the Shanghai train station, with sufficient access to get a cab. Very nice hotel rooms with tasteful decorations. Helpful staff. Btw the mini bar is free maybe due to new store promotion!

My overall stay here was extended, and very comfortable. One suggestion: there should be better instructions on how to walk to the subway a "walk to the subway card", the same as a taxi card.

Some commenters had said the hotel was very far from the Metro. It's actually not that far to the station, or to the city center once you're on the train. With that said, if you have the budget, take taxis, especially on the way back to the hotel at night. I will stay here again, or try other Narada hotels. They're making an earnest effort to continually improve, exceed expectations, and provide value for the money.
This hotel is very clean and nice. The room was quiet and well designed. The bed was huge and comfortable. I like the fact that the design seems thought out rather than the usual half-hearted approach you find in this part of the world. This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in at this price range. I chose this hotel as I required accommodation near Fudan University, which is about a 20 minute walk away.
The next metro station with good connections to the centre is about 15 min away. There a plenty of local restaurants and supermarkets close to the hotel. A market selling reasonably priced fruit, veg, bread My room was attractively furnished, spotless and spacious.

The fridge and kettle were a welcome addition. The breakfast buffet offers a good variety of food, but caters mainly for the hotel's main Chinese clientele who eat a savoury meal consisting of stir fried veg and meat, noodle soup etc.

Options for a western style breakfast are limited to white bread and a choice of three types of cereal. The gym consists of two antique treadmills, an equally old mechanic stepper and a rusty weights machine. The staff is friendly and helpful. Communication was difficult at times as some of the team's command of English is limited. However, I was always able to make myself understood. Overall I would recommend the hotel as it is good value for money.
Hotel is not near to tourist spots, nor train station. Not far from the bund, but you have to proceed with your own transport or taxi taxi. The room is the great thing about this hotel, the room size is decent with tastefully deco. However the bathroom is small. Wifi fast in speed and the complimentary mini bar is a bonus.
This hotel is good, as long as you can solve your transportation problem or you dont mind to take taxi. Very nice and very very good value for money in Shanghai. I really liked this hotel artistic style, good service and well equipped room, free minibar soft drinks everything you need in the bathroom, good shower and comfortable bed, you can even request from a range of other pillows, bamboo pillow for example. The hotel is really nice - good value for money.
Most of the staff does not speak English but nevertheless they are trying to help and are very friendly. The breakfast buffett has lots of options - mostly Chinese food but still okay. All in all I would recommend the hotel. Both rooms were avout degrees all the time. Called to the front desk and they replied air conditioning is adjusted by outside temperature, the answer was totally unacceptable.
I hope the hotel can think about this issue. Other than this, everything was nice. Access and appearance of the hotel is not good. But front staffs are kindness. Room is clean. The breakfast is delicious enough for me. If I go to Shanghai again,I'll choose again this hotel!!! We had special deal for this supposedly spa hotel.
